is it possible to to take a serial output from a device that would normally goto a serial printer and dump the output on a computer. What software is out there to support this
Yes, you can connect the device to the serial port of a computer instead. However, you might have to write a program yourself if the device has to do "handshaking" with the serial printer it is expecting. Also, you may want your program to interpret the data to a form that is readable to you -- data sent to a serial printer usuall has special ASCII codes and printer commands interspersed with the actual data.
