I just got an old hard drive from my friend, and i want to know how to install it (more Inside)?
I got an old hard drive, and plugged it in to my computer, power and ribbon looking connector. I want to know what i need to do so i can actually see and use it. I am running XP home edition, and I have a dell dimension 1100 (desktop.)
First of all the jumper settings would need to be set for slave on this hard drive and master on original hard drive. I can't tell you how to set these as it is different on various hard drives but there should be a schematic of jumper settings on each of the hard drives. Also, if this hard drive has any other format than Fat, Fat32, or NTFS you wont be able to see anything on it (like if it was set for a MAC or Linux machine), but you could reformat it to use in your XP machine. You may also need to set the BIOS to recognize it. If that is the case find a friend more experienced to help you.
