How do I get a computer to correctly recognize my DVD-ROM drive?
I am working on an eMachines T1855 and for some reason the DVD-ROM drive stopped working. I know, though, that the computer still has access to it because when I right click on its drive and hit "Eject," the drive ejects. When I put a disk in it, the icon of the drive does not change and when I click on it, it says "Please insert a disk into drive D:" I checked the BIOS to see if that was recognizing it and it had it down correctly as a Samsung DVD drive. Does anyone know what steps I should take to fix this?
Usually when i run into this, the drive motor (the bit that makes the disc spin) is burnt out, or motor for positioning the read head is jammed/burnt out.
You may be looking at replacing the drive. Try creating a bootable CD and booting from the CD.. this will allow you to find out if its windows causing the problem or if its the drive.
